ABORIGINAL HEALTH COUNCIL OF WESTERN AUSTRALIA

The Sexual Health Practitioner will be working with the Public Health team to develop policies and deliver effective strategies with the aim of decreasing the incidence of Sexually Transmitted Infections and improving the sexual health of Aboriginal peoples of Western Australia.

MISSION STATEMENT
To lead the development of Aboriginal health policy, to influence and monitor performance across the health sector, to advocate for and support community development and capacity building in Aboriginal communities, to support the continued development of Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Services and to build the workforce capacity to improve the health, social and emotional wellbeing of Aboriginal People in Western Australia. A key role of AHCWA is to support, advocate for and provide quality services to our member Aboriginal medical services.

Sexual Health Practitioner
The Sexual Health Practitioner will be working with the Public Health team to develop policies and deliver effective strategies with the aim of decreasing the incidence of Sexually Transmitted Infections and improving the sexual health of Aboriginal peoples of Western Australia.

SELECTION CRITERIA
(What can you bring to the role?)
ESSENTIAL:
• Demonstrated extensive experience in community or public health.
• Demonstrated ability and experience working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
• Demonstrated ability to apply knowledge and skills in the area of clinical expertise – Sexual Health / Communicable Disease Control.
• Demonstrated experience in planning, implementing and evaluating public health programs.
• Demonstrated effective written and verbal communication and highly developed interpersonal skills.
• Demonstrated experience in planning, implementing and evaluating education and training programs for a diverse range of audiences.
• Demonstrated analytical skills.
DESIRABLE:
• Eligible for registration in the category of Registered Nurse by the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia.
• Demonstrated computer skills and working with a variety of databases.
• Post graduate qualifications in the area of health sciences or education.
• Current knowledge and commitment to equal opportunity in all aspects of employment and service delivery and knowledge of Disability Services – Awareness of access to health services that affect the clients of this position.
Salary and employment conditions, will be commensurate with qualifications and experience, and will be negotiated with the successful applicant. It is an essential requirement for this position to undertake a National Police Check.
